Question: What Are Some Ways To Avoid Popping An Ovarian Cyst?

To understand ruptured ovarian cysts, we need to understand why we get cysts. Cysts on the ovaries can be normal because of the hormonal cycle (functional cysts), benign tumors, or cancerous tumors. Any of these can rupture or burst open and all the contents spill out into the pelvis and abdomen. However, it’s more common with functional cysts. The reason is that functional cysts are just way more common.
The reason is that every month a woman creates an egg to be released. This egg sits in a sac or balloon of fluid. When the hormones align, the sac breaks open and the egg gets released. Every month this happens and is normal. To get pregnant, this process must be perfect. But sometimes the hormonal signals are messed up and the sac continues to grow and never bursts. This would be considered a "cyst". Eventually, the sac grows too big and breaks on its own. Think if you kept blowing up a balloon, it would eventually bust open. Same concept.
So, having “cysts” is quite normal for a lot of us. The only way to stop a functional cyst from occurring is to somehow stop the process of ovulation. The only way to do that is to use hormones like birth control pills, the patch, the vaginal ring, the shot, or the insert. Notice how these options have hormones and are usually used for birth control. These all work by altering hormones and therefore stopping ovulation. I wish there were natural remedies to help with this process, but I don’t know of any. If you look online, there are some who think decreasing estrogen in your diet may help...but I don't know of any medical studies to support this.
The other cysts like benign tumors and cancerous tumors can rupture on their own without hormonal fluctuations. But, these are not as common as functional cysts. For these types of cysts, there is nothing that can be done to stop them from rupturing.
Hope this helps. The female body is awesome!
